Dominican College’s Year 8

St. Vincent de Paul Spellathon

On Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th of October 2005, the Saint Vincent de Paul Society ran our annual Spellathon during Year 8 English classes to raise funds. Each member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society was allocated a Year 8 class to assist during the Spellathon. All Year 8 pupils were given two weeks to learn fifty words relating to ST. Vincent de Paul, some which many of the Lower 6ths struggled to pronounce!

The Spellathon required a lot of organisation, which didn’t go down too well, first thing on a Monday morning.

However, after two broken over head projectors and pupils asking, ‘will this go towards my Christmas Test?’ the Spellathon got under way.

The Year 8 pupils were sponsored to take part in the Spellathon and each received a certificate for participating.

The total has yet to be finalised from the Spellathon but Mr. Butler would like to thank the Senior S.V.P Society (Upper and Lower 6ths), the English Department, Year 8 tutors and the Year 8 girls themselves for taking part.
