For many people a familar face in the form of a society visitor may be the only person they come into contact with from the outside world. Most are glad to just have the company of a friendly listening ear, especially the elderly living alone.

This activity remains the cornerstone of our work. Each week more than 2,500 visits are made to needy familes, lone parents, the elderly and others in their homes by Society volunteers throughout Northern Ireland.

Through visitation members can identify the spiritual, material and financial needs of the person and take immediate steps to help ease their crisis. This can be in the form of cash assistance, organising the delivery of fuel, issuing food and clothes vouchers and sorting out the weekly budget and finances.

Many visits are requested by Statutory and Voluntary organisations and these in turn can lead to arranging for the delivery of basic household items of furniture and domestic appliances.
