Omagh Allstars help in major Fundraiser

<<<previous : next>>>

"This is a unique opportunity for the local community to raise a substantial amount of money for the Society of St Vincent de Paul to help them in their very worthwhile work with the vulnerable in our communities", explained St Enda's chairman, Seamus Hannigan.

"We are incredibly pround of what Joe and Justin have achieved for our Club and County and Nial Laird has immortalised them in his painting where they are seen in their St Enda's and Tyrone shirts. We hope the public will support this very worthy cause in the run up to Christmas", added Seamus.

A unique oil painting featuring two of Omagh and Tyrone's All-Ireland heroes is set to raise thousands of pounds for the Society in the run up to Christmas.

Signed prints of the work of art which brilliantly captures the McMahon brothers, Joe and Justin, with the Sam Maguire Cup following the 2008 All-Ireland final, will go on sale this week with the proceeds going towards the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal.

Painted by Omagh designer and artist Niall Laird who previously produced acclaimed paintings of Peter Canavan, Brian Dooher and Stephen O'Neill, the original life-sized portrait of Joe and Justin - the first Omagh men to win All-Ireland senior medals - has been generously donated to the brother's home Club, St Enda's, where it is set to go on permanent display.

The Club and Niall Laird have now teamed up with the Society to produce 150 copies of the painting which will be sold to the public at £130 each.

(L-R) Michael Donnely (Omagh SVP), Séan Laird (artist's father), Joe and Justin McMahon, Phil McKenna (Omagh SVP and Seamus Hannigan of St Enda's Club

Welcoming the fundraising initiative, Phil McKenna, President of the local St Columba's Conference of SVP, paid tribute to the artist and St Enda's Club.

"The GAA is well known for its community links and Nial Laird's concept of Club, County and Community is an evocative representation of the core values of the Association. We are very grateful for the support of the McMahon brothers in this venture and the proceeds from the sale of the limited edition prints will provide essential resources for marginalised families in our community, particularly with the approach of the winter months", explained Phil.
