Sr Eileen McGrath helping out at recent party in Tamale
|
The pictures above and to the right are of a recent party provided for the orphans and poor by the local SVP conference of Holy Cross in Tamale in the north of Ghana who are 'twinned' with St Anne's conference in Kilrea, Co Derry.
Sr Eileen McGrath FMM (pictured above) from Longford was one of the main organisers of the dinner, and has spent most of her life serving the poor and marginalised in Ghana and other parts of the world.

"Twinning is more prominent in our minds and on our agenda than ever before and is supported by us all. Let us continue to play our part, think positively, remain solution focused and renew our faith to help those in need and living in poverty beyond our doorstep. Let us challenge ourselves individually and collectively - in my mind the glass is half full not half empty. God Bless "

Northern Regional Twinning Officer

In 2003 the late John walls took a group of 24 Vincentians to Assin in the Province of Fosos in Ghana where they assisted in the building of 12 bungalows for the native people. This huge project gave a renewed focus and added impetus to Twinning in our Northern Region here in Ireland. Read full story here...
Since that time a new regional twinning committee has been formed; mapping and scoping exercices carried out with Ghana; local NI conferences linked up to Ghanaian conferences for ongoing regular communication and in early 2008 began the first meeting of 19 newly appointed area twinning officers across NI.
Two major projects have now been supported with this renewed vigor and our work programme for 2009/10 is well underway.
Further information about Twinning with Ghana can be obtained by writing to the Regional Twinning Officer, Peter McMahon at the address to your left.
| New regional twinning officer Peter McMahon keeps us up-to-date on developments with our twinned country in Africa - Ghana - May 2009.
Twinning exists at two main levels for us on a day to day basis. Firstly, in our continuing work with supported projects in Ghana such as the excellent work on the Kordiabe Mango Plantation and now in the completed day-centre for the elderly and HIV victims in Tema.
Secondly, with those conferences in NI that have 'twins' in Ghana for ongoing support and correspondence.
