Camp Vincent - The Comeback

<<<previous : next>>>

Thirty young Vincentians attend several days of spiritual reflection and group activities at the annual 'Camp Vincent' in Corrymeela.

The camp ran from Wednesday 27th until Friday 29th June 2007 and was attended by youth members from Belfast and Derry schools and colleges.

Although the group was smaller this year, Camp Vincent 'The Comeback' proved a raving success, leaving satisfied youth members to launch their summer, with fun and reflection as they shared and expressed their concerns on issues of social injustice.

Outdoor activities were curtailed somewhat by the inclement weather, but plenty of challenges were put in place indoors to test mental agility and team building powers to help everyone bond together as a group.

"Direct your energy, your youthful enthusiasm, your creativity but most of all your love for your neighbour into positive action"

Frederic Ozanam

Spiritual workshop

Artistic talents were put to the test on day one in the arts and crafts room, where students were offered the chance to participate in marbling, clay making and glass-painting.

Hidden musical talent was unleashed later as three guitars and a fiddle helped everyone unwind into the wee hours.

Day two started off with a walk from Corrymeela along the picturesque beach peering over to Rathlin Island. Aileen Coney (Reg. Administrator) and Fr Perry Gildea dropped in and helped lead the Thanksgiving Service later that evening which was also attended by several members of Ballycastle SVP.

Senior and youth members alike gathered in the lounge for hot chocolate and cake and an impromptu sing-song. The evening rounded off with a quiz and some more traditional music with members swapping email addresses and consolidating friendships.

The camp not only provided an outlet for youth members to have fun, but it also brought together a group of young people with a common bond, sharing similar hopes and moral consciousness to make our community a better place to live in.
