and how it can be used to discover much more about
who we are and what kind of services we provide
today.

Salmon, Area Vice President for north Belfast gave
a fantastic talk on the realities of how hard life
can be for many families and individuals living below
the poverty line in most parts of north Belfast. |

With
many years experience working in the Newington area,
Martin talked in practical terms about how people
in our own communities benefited from the money given
to the red box every Sunday. |

The
first of several planned 'Schools Awareness' days was held
recently to encourage children to consider forming youth branches
at their school.
Around
30 pupils from three north Belfast secondary schools attended
the event at regional HQ on 16th March.

Lady of Mercy Girls, Bilston Road
- Edmund
Rice Boys, Hightown Road
The
students and their teachers participated in a series of presentations,
games and talks about the history and role of the Society
of St Vincent de Paul and how they could get involved.
Morag
Chambers talked about the important role of our shops
and helped dispel some common myths about the image
of charity shops.

Loughrey outlined how youth can make an important
difference to people's lives.

Ideas
about how young people could help included organising
novel fundraising events at their schools, helping out
at Christmas or supporting the Belfast Marathon. |
