A
table draw and ballots offering twenty prizes raised £1,200
and the Melon Country Inn kindly donated a further £1,000.
Together with ticket sales the event raised around £7,000
and will be used by the SVP in the run-up to Christmas.
Addressing those gathered, outgoing area president Raymonde
McDaid said:-
"At
this time of year there are many demands on the work of
the SVP. A large amount of people in the Strabane district
will be helped over the Christmas period with food, clothes,
fuel and toys for children.
Our
charity is at the forefront of the work of bringing help
and support to the poor and needy and we are seen by many
as a glowing example of how volunteers can work together
in a true Christian spirit.
The
Society relies heavily on funding and the generosity of
the public to continue our valuable work. Last year we spent
over £63k in cash grants, food, clothing, furniture,
fuel and outings and visited an average of 150 families
and individuals weekly."
