The
teams ran in a relay, meaning that each team member had at
least 4 miles to cover, throughout the city of Belfast, no
mean feat.
The
route took the teams from the city centre out towards Harland
& Wolff back through the centre into the west along the
Falls, Shankill and up in North Belfast, where they took in
The Old Park, Antrim and Whitewell roads, through Duncrue,
past the P & 0 terminal and finally back into Ormeau Park,
where friends, families and supporters awaited the exhausted
and deserving runners.

The
teams hope to raise several hundred pounds in sponsorship
between them which they will be donating to local SVP conferences
in Belfast.
25
young members of the Society of St Vincent de Paul took part
in this year's Belfast City Marathon to raise funds for local
conferences on 1st May 2006.
Despite
the miserable start to the May Day, the marathon runners were
able to avail of the dry and bright weather for most of their
time pounding the streets!!
Five teams ran in aid of SVP (officially), one from St Anthony’s
Conference, QUB and the four from Dominican College, Fortwilliam.

The
atmosphere at the Marathon was one of huge support and encouragement,
furthermore it was a great community effort to get out and
support all those needy charities that will ultimately benefit
from the weeks of preparation and training of those who participated.
A great day and very well organised!!!
On
behalf of SVP, a huge thanks to Rosemary, Terence, Gemma,
Sabrina & Declan from QUB as well as to Mr Butler &
Mr Mason and all the girls of Dominican. Congratulations on
a huge effort and personal commitment, hopefully you’ll
inspire others to follow suit next year!!
