conference in Newington and also visited the dePaul
Trust's hostels at Atlantic House and Stella Maris.
After
a guided tour of west Belfast he visited the area
offices and shop at the Mountainview Centre where
he was also shown the pre-school and afterschool activities
carried out from there. |

The
Society had the pleasure of welcoming Father Gregory Gay CM,
Superior General of the "Congregation of the Mission"
on 28th June 2006.
Fr
Gregory is on a week long visit to Ireland to meet members
of the Society and the greater Vincentian Family
and see our works and activities at first hand.
He
visited the regional hq in Belfast accompanied by Fr Perry
Gildea where he was shown around and got to meet with volunteers
and staff from our offices, shops and furniture store.
| He
was very impressed by the quality and range of clothing,
bric-a-brac and furniture on offer at our boutique and
furniture shop. |

The
Vincentian Family is made up of many groups who follow in
the footsteps of the 17th century Saint Vincent de Paul. Some
are religious orders and others (like our Society) are lay
groups.
“Solicitude
for the poor, in the following of Christ, belongs to the very
heart of the Gospel and is a sign of Christian authenticity
and of belonging to the community of Jesus’ disciples.
Many persons and groups that are part of the Vincentian Family
give expression to this prophetic power today.”
As
prison chaplains, heads of service agencies, AIDS mentors
and lawyers, Vincentians are directly engaged in the lives
of the poor.
The Congregation of the Mission is a religious order founded
in 1625 by St Vincent de Paul for the evangelisation of the
poor and the formation of the clergy.
Fr
Gregory Gay was elected Superior General of the Congregation
of the Mission in July 2004 as the 23rd successor of St
Vincent de Paul.
Previously he served as a priest in Central America.
