Society
gears-up for month of festive activities aimed at collecting
and distributing as many gifts as possible to families in
need throughout Northern Ireland.
Already
our 2000+ volunteers are preparing themselves for appeals
from individuals, single parents, families and the elderly
for toys, hampers and a listening ear.
For
many people living on the margins of the community, Christmas
can become an overwhelming burden on finances and getting
an extra toy or hamper can make all the difference.
For
others, especially the elderly, Christmas can be a time of
great isolation, depression and loneliness. Our members will
be calling to offer a chat, a prayer and offer any practical
help they can.
As
in previous years, the Society will be working in partnership
with others to maximise the number of gifts received and the
number of people helped.
The
Family Appeal
This
year's Christmas Appeal for toys will be launched on Monday
27th November and runs until Wednesday 13th
December. It is a joint activity with the Salvation
Army and is sponsored by the BBC.
Please
leave your gift at any branch of the SVP, Salvation Army,
Tescos, Asda, Marlowe Cleaners, Alliance & Leicester,
First Trust Bank, Open & Direct, Co-op Stores, Travelcare,
UPS, RE/MAX, Curves and Charles Hurst Toyota.
Last
year's Family Appeal helped 11,000 children throughout Northern
Ireland.

Between
2nd to 10th December 2006 is SVP Week. During this time
all our local branches will be carrying out some form of
special collection in your area, either at Masses or via
Street Collections or other novel fund-raising events.
Please
support these appeals by giving generously.
The
Giving Tree
One
such 'novel' fundraising event held in Belfast is the annual
'Giving Tree' in Your M&S at Donegall Place from Monday
4th to Saturday 16th December.
Here
you can pick a tag for a boy or girl from the tree and bring
back a suitable gift.
The
event is run between ourselves and the Belfast Central Mission.
Last year's tree realised a total of 1,250 gifts which were
distributed to needy children in all areas of Belfast.
