David Carlin from the 'Anti-Racism Movement' gave a moving talk on his personal experiences of racial abuse and appealed to those attending to help promote tolerance among their friends, schoolmates and others.

Cathy Donnelly from Armagh SVP, spoke to the audience about how their conference was helping immigrants overcome the language barrier and other social issues.

Last speaker was Ciaran Liggett from the SVP Regional Office who spoke about the Society's website and launched the online Youth Forum describing its uses and benefits.

The 2nd Annual SVP Youth Conference was held on Saturday 22nd October with the theme "Facing the Challenge".

Over 100 young members, teachers, and guests attended the day long event which was held in the Wellington Park Hotel, Belfast.

Michael Gormley, who hosted the conference, announced that very soon a full time Youth Development Officer will be touring all youth conferences in the northern region.

Next up was Tom Lyon (Assistant Youth Development Officer for SVP in England & Wales) who got everyone to split into groups for a couple of 'ice-breaking' activities. This was followed by a short talk were he shared ideas and examples of the work currently being undertaken by youth members in England and Wales.

After dinner each conference spoke about it's work through the poster montages that were displayed around the walls.
