The earthquake, measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale, occurred in the ocean bed off the Indonesian island of Sumatra, resulting in a massive tidal wave which had a devastating effect on the surrounding countries including Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Bangladesh causing, to date, almost 300,000 deaths.
|  Another aerial view of the devastation (click to enlarge) €100k has already been sent to local SVP branches in the area from our Disaster Relief Fund in Dublin and local conferences in Northern Ireland have so far raised £182k (€252k) during January and February 2005.
