The money will be used to help refurbish the kitchen facilities and equipment in the Breakfast Club which is open every school day from 8am to shortly after 9am. In February 2002 the Afterschool Club opened following the necessary alterations to the rooms, e.g., electric and heating safeguards. It is used 5 days per week by 35 children aged 6-16 from throughout west Belfast from 1.45pm to 5pm. Here they receive computer training, 11+ tuition and attend drama and music classes amongst other activities. The children also participate in the Belfast Lord Mayor's Show every year. They won in 2003 and received a special commendation in 2004. Each July and August the children also continue to attend the Summer Scheme for sports, trips and other activities. | Our Breakfast and Afterschool Club in West Belfast received a generous donation of £1,000 from HOPE (Helping Overcome Poverty Everywhere) on Wednesday 27th April 2005. | Mr Tom Fitzpatrick (HOPE), along with the BBC's John Daly, made the presentation at a visit to the Mountainview Project, where the Society's regional president Larry McArdle staff, volunteers and children made them more than welcome. | | | |
The project opened in September 2001 at the Mountainview Centre in West Belfast with a Breakfast Club attended by 25+ children daily from local schools. The children partake of a healthy breakfast including pure fruit juice (apple preferred), cereals, toast, fresh fruit, tea and milk. The Breakfast club is manned by staff and volunteer parents.

Our own staff are qualified in child care and continue to study through internal and external funding at BIFHE. In addition there are 8 special needs children whose parents receive funding to enable them to work part-time. We are helped by final year students from St Dominic's Grammar and St Louise's Comprehensive Schools.
