Mangle Push Fundraiser

<<<previous : next>>>

Mangle Push Poster
Official Rotary poster advertising event was posted in countless shops and business along all three routes

£1,000 was kindly donated to the Society of St Vincent de Paul as part proceeds from a Cross Community effort by Fortwilliam Rotary Club in Belfast.

They had an old Victorian Mangle pushed along the Shankill, Andersonstown, Falls and Antrim roads and on to the Club's meeting place at Belfast Castle.

Held on three Saturdays, 4th, 11th and 18th of September 2004, the effort will raised funds which were split between four charities, Action MS, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Society of St. Vincent de Paul and The Salvation Army.

The event was launched at a press conference with Lord Mayor Tom Eakin, (a Rotarian from Belfast West), along with well known comediene May McFetridge at the Belfast Castle on the 25th August.

The Lord Mayor was at the start of the Mangle Push on the Shankill Road route on the 4th September. Strongman Glenn Ross and Ex International Footballer Mal Donaghy started proceedings on the Andersonstown and Falls Roads on 11th September. The Antrim Road push started at Carlisle Circus, with a brief stop at SVP HQ, before ending up at Belfast Castle for a meal and after dinner speakers on 18th September.
